About Our Fire Department

Proudly serving the communities of Swayzee, Sims, Herbst, and the townships of Liberty, Franklin, and Sims since 1951. The members of our department continually strive to provide the best and most efficient services to our communities. Our department was formed in 1951 and our first station was located on Washington Street next to Armstrong Farm Company. In 1975, the department remodeled two buildings just south of the old station and the members still operate from this station today.

  • Our rating is 5 in Swayzee and 8 in all other Townships.
  • Protects 62 square miles of Fire Territory, which includes Sims, Franklin, Liberty Townships and the Towns of Swayzee, Herbst, and Sims.
  • We also provide mutual aid to the surrounding communities of Green Township, Pleasant Township, and the towns of Sweetser, Converse, and Marion.
