At the Town Council meeting on Monday, July 17th, the Town Council voted to not amend the animal ordinance. Previously, the town council considered amending the Animal Ordinance which would allow residents to own and raise chickens within town limits.
Council President Aaron Travis said; "Over the past few months, the Swayzee Town Council has been asked to consider making changes to the animal ordinance to allow a homeowner to possess chickens on their property. During the June meeting, we heard from residents who were both for and against a change. During our July meeting a vote was taken, and unanimously the Town Council voted to NOT amend the current animal ordinance. To clarify, inside the Town limits our current ordinance prohibits farm animals to be possessed by residents for any purpose. I want to thank all of the residents who were present at either meeting, and those that made their opinion known so that the Council could make the best decision for the residents of our great little town." The Animal Ordinance can be read on the Swayzee website at www.swayzee.org/town-ordinances. For additional questions, please call our office at 765.922.7953.
